The market price of a charging station installation is constantly changing: fluctuating cable prices, shifting capacity tariffs from grid operators, new models, and regional grants that start or end. Consequently, those comparing quotes often lack a frame of reference. That is why we are now publishing a quarterly barometer featuring the actual, average project costs as we have invoiced them ourselves over the past three months.

The figures below are based on completed Certipower projects in the second quarter of 2026. They are indicative and do not constitute a quote: every situation depends on the distance to the meter cupboard, type of meter, penetrations, and grid connection capacity.

Residential (single-family home, 1 charging point)

For a standard installation of an 11 kW home charging station on the facade or in the garage, with cabling up to 15 meters and without a heavier meter, our Q2 average is around €1,850 including VAT, for materials and installation combined. Compared to 2025, this represents a slight decrease of approximately 4%, primarily due to falling prices for smart stations in the mid-range segment.

The variance remains significant: a straightforward installation can stay below €1,500, while homes requiring a meter cupboard upgrade or a long cable run can quickly exceed €2,500.

SME or business parking (2 to 6 charging points)

For a typical SME installation with 2 to 6 AC charging points of 11 or 22 kW, including load balancing and back-office configuration, the average project cost in Q2 ranges from €2,100 to €2,800 per charging point. The more charging points on a single run, the lower the cost per point — an effect that becomes noticeable from 4 points onwards.

The primary price driver is not the station itself, but the cable runs and any necessary modifications to the main distribution board. For older commercial properties, this often accounts for more than half of the project budget.

VME (co-ownership, 4 to 20 charging points)

VME projects are the most difficult to benchmark because no two buildings are identical. For a common scenario — a collective backbone with individual billing, 8 to 12 charging points — the average Q2 price is between €2,400 and €3,200 per charging point, including the backbone installation, individual metering, and administrative setup. This higher cost compared to an SME is entirely attributable to the shared infrastructure and the metering and billing layer.

DC fast charger (50 kW)

A 50 kW DC fast charger at a business site or retailer has an average project cost in Q2 of €32,000 to €45,000, heavily dependent on the grid connection. In a quarter of our cases, a grid upgrade is required, which alone can cost between €10,000 and €25,000, separate from the station itself.

What is driving the price most today?

  • Grid connection: for approximately 1 in 5 projects in Q2, an upgrade or new connection was necessary. This is by far the largest unknown factor in a quote.
  • Cable run: every extra meter between the distribution board and the charging point counts. In residential projects, the run accounts for 30 to 50% of the price difference between quotes.
  • Grants and VAT regime: regional grants and VAT recovery can reduce the net amount by 20 to 40%. Anyone comparing quotes without taking this into account is comparing gross prices that are not representative.
  • Model choice: the difference between an entry-level model and a smart station with dynamic load balancing and split billing functionality is €300 to €700 at the material level, but the operational added value is often much greater.
