New router, different wifi password or a new internet provider? Then your Smappee charging station loses its connection. Charging sometimes still works, but smart charging, your consumption overview and settlement via split billing stop until the charging station is back online. Here is how to reconnect it, in about five minutes.
Why your charging station needs to stay online
The connection runs through the Smappee Connect, the module in your charging station that talks to the internet. Without a connection:
- smart charging on solar energy or during cheap hours no longer works;
- your charging sessions do not appear in the app or in My.Certipower;
- the reimbursement of home charging via split billing falls behind.
Usually there is nothing wrong with the charging station itself. It is simply still looking for the old network.
What you need beforehand
- The name and password of your new wifi network
- A 2.4 GHz network: the Smappee Connect does not work on 5 GHz
- Your smartphone with the Smappee app, logged in to your account
- Enough range: stand right next to the charging station during the procedure
How to reconnect your charging station
- Open the Smappee appGo to Settings and choose Charging stations. Select the charging station that is offline and tap Connect.
- Choose a new connectionTap Change your installation and choose wifi (or ethernet if your charging station is connected with a network cable).
- Connect to the charging stationThe app asks you to connect temporarily to the charging station’s network. That network appears in your smartphone’s wifi list as smappee5130xxxxxx, followed by the serial number.
- Choose your own networkSelect your new 2.4 GHz wifi and enter the password.
- Wait for the green signalAs soon as the Connect LED lights up green and ‘breathes’ calmly, your charging station is back online.
Labels in the app may differ slightly between versions. The order of the steps stays the same.
Still offline? Check these three things
Does your router broadcast on 2.4 GHz?
Many new routers combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name. That usually works, but not always. If the connection fails, create a separate 2.4 GHz network in your router’s settings.
Is the signal at the charging station strong enough?
A charging station in a garage or on an outside wall is often far from the router. A wifi extender or mesh point near the charging station usually solves this. A network cable is even more stable.
Is mobile data on your smartphone switched off?
During the procedure your smartphone must stay connected to the charging station’s network. Temporarily switch off mobile data, and on Android switch on location services.
Charging with a different charging station?
Certipower installs and manages charging stations from several brands, including Smappee, Alfen, Zaptec and Hager. The procedure differs per brand. Let us know the brand and model, and we will send you the right procedure.
