The LED on your Smappee charging station tells you at a glance what is happening: ready to charge, charging, waiting for your charging card or a fault. Below you will find what each colour means and what to do in each case.

The colours at a glance

LED Meaning What to do
White, steady The charging station is available. Plug the cable into your car.
Blue, steady Your car is connected, but not yet authorised to charge. Hold your charging card against the reader, or start the session in the app.
Blue, flashing Your charging card is being checked. Wait a moment.
Green, pulsing Your car is charging. Nothing, everything works.
Green, steady Charging has stopped. Normal when the battery is full or when smart charging pauses. See below.
Red, flashing Your charging card was refused. Check that you are using the right card and that it is active.
Red, steady The charging station is unavailable or there is an error. See the steps below.

These colours apply to the LED on the outside of the charging station. The Smappee Connect, the communication module inside, has its own LED with a different meaning.

Steady green, but your car is not full?

That is usually not a fault. Charging has stopped, and there are three common reasons for that:

01

Smart charging is waiting for sunshine or a cheaper hour

If your charging station is set to charge on solar energy, it pauses as long as there is not enough surplus. Our article on solar charging with Smappee explains how to adjust this.

02

Your car has reached its own charging limit

Many cars deliberately stop at 80 or 90 percent, or only start charging at a set time. Check the charging settings in your car’s app.

03

The rest of the house is using a lot of power

With load balancing, the charging station gives priority to your home. If the oven, heat pump and tumble dryer run at the same time, charging may pause temporarily. This protects your installation and your capacity tariff.

Steady red: what to do

  1. Check whether the charging station is activatedA new charging station that has not yet been activated shows a red LED. In that case, wait for activation after installation.
  2. Check the connectionDoes the charging station show as offline in the app? Then reconnect it to your wifi. How to do that is explained in reconnecting a Smappee charging station to wifi.
  3. Restart the charging stationSwitch the charging station off at the circuit breaker in your fuse box, wait one minute and switch it back on.
  4. Is the LED still red?Contact our service desk. Mention the serial number and, if possible, send a photo of the charging station.

Do you see damage to the cable, the plug or the housing? Stop using the charging station and contact us immediately.
